To All Musicians and Artists:

In order to clarify many of the issues surrounding your performance at the Black Door, we now have a standardized list. Please take the time to read it as some of the protocols have changed. These changes are necessary in order for this venue to remain vibrant. Our intent is to remain one of the best live performance spaces available and to avoid any misunderstandings.

  • All confirmed dates need approval by both parties at least 4 weeks in advance. Email confirmations are best. This allows us time for in-house promotion and to place the event in our monthly calendar.
  • Standard house payout is the band receives all the cover charge (TBD) collected at the door, PLUS the house guarantee of $100 for weekdays and $200 for both Fridays and Saturdays. (Unless agreed on differently and written down in advance). All previous agreements are no longer valid, and must be re-negotiated. The band may have a person at the door to collect the cover charge or arrange coverage with the Black Dor in advance.
  • The Black Door will not absorb the entire financial responsibility, and should the house incur a monetary loss due to lack of promotion by the band or low turnout, the Black Door reserves the right to retain a percentage of the cover charge.
  • Band must supply the Black Door with description of their music genre, posters (8 x 11 preferred), and all other relevant information to promote the date in house at least one week in advance.
  • Other than the standard listings in Seven Days and the local Montpelier papers, the Black Door assumes no other responsibility in the band’s promotion. If the Black Door has to take the time and money to make and copy posters to promote the event, that cost will be deducted from the guarantee.
  • Band members are allowed one alcohol drink, a flatbread & salad on the house before the performance.
  • Load in and sound check is as follows. Either from 3:00 – 5:00 or after 8:15. All performances are to begin at 9:30 Friday and Saturday, 8:30 on weekdays. Two sets are preferred with a fifteen minute break, end time is no sooner than midnight on weekends, 10:30 on weekdays.
  • House guarantee check can be cashed at the bar.
